A Grateful Heart

This last Thursday I was able to wrap my arms around my son again! He was deployed to the middle east for just over a year. What a year it has been. Friday we observed Veteran’s Day. Veteran’s Day has always been held with great regard in my family and I thank my parents and grandparents for that. However, having a son and son in law who are both veterans the day has taken on special reverence over the years. I grew up with many family members serving this great nation thru the generations. And last November, getting ready to say goodbye, we stood for the National Anthem and I was brought to tears as my 3 year old grandson knew to stand with his hand over his heart with respect. In those moments there is a humbleness.

I took this photo the day my son deployed. The flag was displayed behind the podium and I was able to capture this sweet moment with he and his daughter. When was the last time you really sat and thought about what these men and women sacrifice for us? It makes me so proud and humbles me to my knees when I think of what they do. I look at my daughter and daughter in law and think of how they handled things here while the boys were deployed. Again….so humbled and so very very proud. It is just so much that military families do for each of us, I think we forget from time to time just how much they do. I know 90% of the military people I know are incredibly humble and do not want attention brought to their service or sacrifice. They have servant’s hearts! They are beautiful giving people. I look at this country right now and all the ugliness and it makes me so sad! It makes me sad that people can’t see how good they have it. That they can’t see how blessed they are. They take for granted people like our military. What would we do without those who voluntarily enlisted?

I will get off that soap box, but I just really wanted to say a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to every one who does or has served (including family members). You all mean the world to this family and we are loving and praying for you each and every day!
